President Bola Tinubu has condoled with former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, following the death of her husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun.
Anthony Adeosun died on Wednesday at the age of 62.
Tinubu expressed his condolences to the former minister, members of the Adeosun family, friends and business associates of the deceased in a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The statement was titled, ‘President Tinubu condoles with former Minister of Finance, Adeosun family over passing of Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun.’
The President described the death as a loss to the Adeosun family and others who knew the deceased, while urging them to draw strength from his life, faith and service to society.
“The President condoles with the Adeosun family, friends and business associates over the loss, urging comfort in the legacies of steadfast faith, community service and charity that the devout Christian left behind,” the statement said.
Tinubu also acknowledged the tributes and testimonies that have followed the death, noting that they reflected the impact the deceased had on people around him.
According to the President, Anthony Adeosun was particularly known for his support for the less privileged and his commitment to charitable activities.
Tinubu described him as a devout Christian whose concern for people in need touched many lives.
The President said the values the deceased demonstrated during his lifetime would remain part of his legacy and provide comfort to those mourning him.
He prayed that God would give Kemi Adeosun and members of her family the strength to cope with the loss.
Tinubu also prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
The death of Anthony Adeosun has brought condolences to Kemi Adeosun, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeosun was appointed Minister of Finance in November 2015 and remained in office until September 2018.
She was one of the key officials involved in the management of the country’s finances during the Buhari administration.
Her tenure came at a challenging period for Nigeria’s economy, including the impact of falling oil prices, foreign exchange pressures and efforts by the Federal Government to increase revenue and reduce dependence on oil earnings.
Before joining the Federal Executive Council, Adeosun had served as Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State. She had also worked in the private sector and held professional positions in accounting and finance.
Her resignation as Finance Minister in 2018 followed controversy over the National Youth Service Corps exemption certificate she had presented earlier in her career.
At the time, the Presidency said her resignation was accepted by Buhari.
Since leaving government, Adeosun has remained involved in professional and social activities.
Her husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, was described by Tinubu as a committed Christian and a man devoted to charity and community service.
The President’s tribute focused largely on the deceased’s personal qualities and his efforts to support people in need.
Tinubu said the testimonies about his life and good works showed the positive influence he had on those around him.
The President’s condolence is part of a series of messages from public figures and other Nigerians following the death.
The Adeosun family is expected to announce details of the funeral arrangements in the coming days.
