Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, has reinstated Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu as its acting Vice-Chancellor.
The reinstatement follows the dissolution of the university’s governing council by President Bola Tinubu.
The council had been accused of illegally appointing Prof. Bernard Odoh as Vice-Chancellor without due process.
A statement signed by the university’s spokesperson, Njelita Louis, confirmed the decision.
It read, “In accordance with directives from the Minister of Education, Prof. Ikechebelu is reinstated with immediate effect.”
Prof. Ikechebelu has been tasked with assuming full administrative duties for the university.
Similarly, Mr. Victor Modebelu has been appointed Acting Registrar, replacing Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike.
Nwokike’s appointment was also deemed illegal by the now-dissolved council.
The university community has been urged to support the reinstated officials.
The crisis underscores the need for transparency in university governance.
