Why We Moved Our Daughter’s Wedding to Abuja – Ado Bayero Family Clears the Air

    Share

The family of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has come forward to clarify why they decided to relocate the wedding of their daughter, Maryam Nasir Ado Bayero, and Abba Barau Jibrin, from Kano to Abuja.

In a statement issued on December 3, 2024, the family addressed growing rumors circulating on social media, claiming that the move was influenced by tensions surrounding the ongoing Tax Reform Bills.

Clarifying the Move: A Family Decision

The wedding was originally planned to take place in Kano on December 13, but the Ado Bayero family confirmed that the decision to shift the location was entirely their own.

Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of Kano and chairman of the wedding organizing committee, issued the statement on behalf of the bride’s family.

Dan Agundi explained that reports linking the change of venue to political matters were unfounded and misleading.

“Our attention has been drawn to false and misleading reports circulating on social media regarding the wedding,” the statement read.

“We wish to clearly state that the relocation of our daughter’s wedding from Kano to Abuja was solely our decision and not influenced by the family of the groom, Dr. Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate,” the statement continued.

Wedding Location Decision Is a Family Tradition

The statement emphasized that the choice of wedding venue is traditionally the responsibility of the bride’s family, in line with cultural norms.

“It is the tradition in our family that the responsibility of picking the wedding location rests solely on the shoulders of the bride’s family,” Dan Agundi stated.

He further reiterated that the decision to move the wedding to Abuja was made in consultation with various stakeholders, ensuring the convenience of invited guests.

    Convenience for Guests, Not Politics

The Ado Bayero family clarified that the move had nothing to do with the political climate surrounding the Tax Reform Bills, which have sparked debates across Nigeria.

“The wedding was relocated from Kano to Abuja weeks ago to make it more convenient for key personalities who have shown interest in attending the wedding from different parts of the country and beyond,” Dan Agundi explained.

There had been speculations that the change in location was politically motivated due to the ongoing discussions about the Tax Reform Bills. However, the family firmly denied any such connection.

    Call for Unity and Understanding

The family urged the public and media to avoid linking the wedding relocation to political events or controversies.

“Marriage is a sacred institution in our religion, and it should not be politicized,” the statement read.

The Ado Bayero family also reminded the public that marriage is part of the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and should be viewed as a religious and personal matter, not an occasion for political discussion.
