As Nigeria looks toward the 2027 general elections, the leadership of the Obidient Movement, a group championing the ideals of its founding figure, Mr. Peter Obi, has made a resolute vow to reinforce its efforts in mobilizing Nigerians, particularly the youth, for what it calls the “reclamation of Nigeria’s destiny.” Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator of the movement, in his New Year’s message, emphasized that the group’s commitment to ensuring a new, prosperous Nigeria is unwavering, with 2025 seen as a critical year for action.
Speaking on behalf of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa outlined the plans and strategies that would dominate the movement’s activities over the next two years. He urged members to be resolute in their efforts to reach every corner of Nigeria, from urban centers to rural communities, to ensure that citizens are actively engaged in the movement’s mission.
“We are at the threshold of 2025, a year that promises to be pivotal in the fight for a better Nigeria,” said Yunusa. “As we step into this New Year, we carry with us the hope and light to face any challenge that may come. Our focus is clear: we will mobilize, organize, and strategize to secure a brighter future for all Nigerians, regardless of their background or status.”
Yunusa further highlighted the significance of the coming year as one of both action and reflection, stressing that every Nigerian must embrace their role in the nation’s future. He pointed out that the movement’s goal of ensuring a prosperous Nigeria is not just for the elites but for all citizens, urging people to get involved, regardless of age, background, or location.
Mobilizing the Masses
The National Coordinator acknowledged that while 2024 presented significant challenges for the Nigerian people, including economic struggles, insecurity, and a struggling healthcare system, these challenges only reinforced the importance of pushing forward with the movement’s plans for 2025.
“We’ve endured so much in 2024, and yet, we stand strong. This is our moment to turn the tide. The Obidient Movement is set to ramp up its community outreaches, town hall meetings, and ward-to-ward sensitization campaigns. We are targeting both urban and rural areas. From our grassroots level to the highest echelons of government, we will ensure that every Nigerian understands the importance of reclaiming our nation’s future,” Dr. Yunusa said.
The movement plans to hold a series of events throughout 2025, including door-to-door campaigns, youth engagement initiatives, and partnerships with local organizations, all aimed at building a groundswell of support. Yunusa emphasized that these activities would not just be about political awareness but also about empowering citizens to actively contribute to the nation’s development.
“We must engage not only with the political system but also with the social fabric of Nigeria,” he added. “The time for complacency is over. Every Nigerian must recognize their responsibility in the collective effort to bring about meaningful change.”
Looking to the Future
In his address, Yunusa also took time to reflect on the journey so far. He paid tribute to the victories of the movement, acknowledging that despite the hurdles, the Obidient Movement has made substantial progress. However, he emphasized that the fight for a better Nigeria is far from over.
“We look back with gratitude, but we look forward with determination. Our victories in the past have been hard-won, but they have laid the foundation for even greater triumphs,” he said. “This year will be a turning point, and as we move closer to 2027, we will continue to push forward, stronger than ever before.”
Yunusa also called on Nigerians from all walks of life to contribute to the vision of a transformed Nigeria, whether through active participation in the movement or by simply advocating for good governance. He made a special appeal to both the youth and the elders.
“To the youth, I say: this is your time to rise. This is the moment to show the world the brilliance, creativity, and resilience that Nigeria is known for. You are the leaders of tomorrow, and now is the time to step up and make a global impact,” Yunusa urged.
Addressing the elders, he urged them to use their experience to guide the nation, saying that it was now time for them to lend their voices and actions toward making a real difference in Nigeria’s progress.
“It’s time for the elders to play a crucial role in shaping the future of our country. You have the wisdom, the experience, and the influence to help lead this nation to prosperity,” Yunusa noted.
A Call for Unity
Throughout his message, Yunusa emphasized that the Obidient Movement is committed to unity, urging Nigerians to set aside divisions and focus on the common goal of national development. He acknowledged that Nigeria faces many obstacles, including corruption, poor infrastructure, and political instability, but he maintained that unity among citizens is key to overcoming these challenges.
“Despite all the difficulties we face, we must not lose hope. Our strength lies in our unity. Together, we will overcome the challenges of insecurity, inflation, and the other hardships that plague our country,” Yunusa said. “The road ahead will not be easy, but I believe in the power of the Nigerian people to rise above these challenges.”
Looking Ahead to 2025 and Beyond
As the Obidient Movement moves into 2025, Yunusa reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the principles set forth by Mr. Peter Obi, whose vision continues to inspire millions of Nigerians. The movement, according to Yunusa, is dedicated to rebuilding the country’s institutions and ensuring that Nigeria’s future is characterized by economic prosperity, social justice, and sustainable development.
“Together, we will build a new Nigeria. A Nigeria where the people come first, where good governance is not a dream but a reality. In 2025, we will start the journey of rebuilding this nation,” Yunusa concluded.
