In a dramatic turn of events, former Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro, has announced his withdrawal from the contest for the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. This development follows an interim court order issued by the Enugu State High Court barring him from participating in the election scheduled for January 10, 2025.
At a press conference held in Enugu on January 9, Okiro expressed his decision to comply with the court’s directive, despite strongly contesting the grounds on which the order was issued. The suit before the court claims Okiro is from Imo State and not Rivers State, where the position has been zoned.
“It is unfortunate that the court did not invite me or hear from me before issuing this obnoxious order, which I first learned about through the media,” Okiro lamented.
