Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that by the 2027 general elections, political parties will no longer matter in Akwa Ibom State, saying the people are now united behind certain leaders, regardless of party affiliations.
Akpabio made the statement during a large empowerment event held at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium on Friday. According to him, “As I speak with you, there is nothing like political party in 2027 in Akwa Ibom again. All parties have collapsed to vote for Senator Akpabio for Senate and Governor Umo Eno for governor.”
The Senate President, who represents Akwa Ibom North-West, took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying its “umbrella has been torn to shreds and can no longer protect the people.”
Akpabio commended Governor Umo Eno, describing him as a genuine man of peace and a true servant of God. “Umo Eno is not just a man who talks about God, he practices what he preaches,” Akpabio said.
He also praised his wife, Unoma Akpabio, for her constant support and empowerment initiatives. “She feeds people not because of politics, but because hunger has no party,” he said.
At the event, over 1,600 constituents received various empowerment items, including:
30 minibuses, 67 passenger tricycles, 50 cassava processing machines, 347 deep freezers, 247 generators, Bags of rice, cookers, and cash grants.
Akpabio also announced that 68 life-impacting projects in his senatorial district would be commissioned between May 16 and 17, 2025.
Essien Udim Local Government Chairman, who welcomed guests to the event, praised Akpabio’s long-standing commitment to grassroots development, noting his continued support since his days as a commissioner, governor, and now Senate President.
The event drew large crowds and political stakeholders across party lines, signalling a strong base of support for Akpabio ahead of the next general elections.
