Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that President Bola Tinubu stands no chance of winning re-election in 2027, dismissing any possibility of a second term. Speaking in an interview with journalists in Abuja, El-Rufai expressed that despite the influx of defectors into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu’s chances remain slim.
El-Rufai said that Nigerians have lost faith in both the APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and are seeking credible alternatives. He added that many defectors were either motivated by personal gain, like seeking government contracts or appointments, or feared being targeted by anti-corruption agencies such as the EFCC.
“I do not see a pathway for him (Tinubu) to be re-elected. Who would vote for him?” El-Rufai said. He also pointed out that the defections happening in the APC were primarily driven by greed and the desire for political favours.
Regarding the political coalition forming as an alternative to the two main parties, El-Rufai emphasized that nothing had been finalized yet, but all parties involved were committed to finding a unified platform to improve the country. He underscored that the coalition’s goal is to create a government that would help all Nigerians, regardless of their status.
El-Rufai further clarified that he has no personal ambition for any political position. He expressed that he would only run for office if divinely mandated, as he does not seek leadership for personal gain.
