Terrorists struck again in Katsina State on Saturday, killing the Commander of the Community Security Watch Corps, Sanusi, along with four of his team members in a deadly ambush.
The attack occurred as the security team responded to a distress call about bandit movements near Maharba village in Matazu Local Government Area. According to sources, the officers were travelling in a Hilux patrol vehicle when about 20 armed bandits on motorcycles ambushed them at a stream crossing.
The assailants were said to have hidden in nearby mango trees and launched a surprise attack, setting the patrol vehicle ablaze with the personnel still inside.
Commander Sanusi was responsible for security operations across Kusada, Kankia, and parts of Charanchi Local Government Areas.
In response, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda led a high-powered delegation to the area for an on-the-spot assessment. The delegation included top security officials, members of the state executive, and local government leaders.
Governor Radda expressed deep sorrow over the killings and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. He assured residents of the government’s commitment to improving security in the state, especially in hard-to-reach rural communities.
This gruesome incident follows a recent attack on the Gobirawa community in Dutsinma LGA, where 19 residents were killed and homes and shops set on fire.
Katsina remains one of the northern states facing frequent attacks from armed bandits who continue to target rural communities, despite ongoing security efforts.
