Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured the people of the state that he remains firmly in charge and will soon return fully to office, despite recent political challenges.

In a statement released on Thursday to mark the second anniversary of his administration, Fubara described his journey since assuming office on May 29, 2023, as “challenging but progressive and impactful.”

The governor used the occasion to call for unity among the people of Rivers, urging them to set aside past political conflicts and work together to rebuild a better, stronger state.

“Our political landscape has changed in the last two years. Despite the turbulence, I have remained focused on protecting and promoting our collective interests. That commitment remains firm,” Fubara stated.

Rivers State has witnessed months of political tension following a rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The crisis has caused division within the state’s political structure, stalling some aspects of governance.

However, the governor said that while the political situation had affected development efforts, it had not stopped progress. He highlighted achievements in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and women’s involvement in governance.

“These successes were possible because of your support and belief in a better Rivers. I deeply appreciate your sacrifices and resilience,” he told citizens.

Looking ahead, Fubara promised to continue working toward peace and progress in the state. He said reconciliation and forgiveness were necessary steps toward restoring stability and delivering impactful development to the people.

“We are at a crucial stage in our journey. Some tough decisions lie ahead, but I assure you that every move will be in the interest of Rivers people and our long-term development,” he said.

In a strong appeal to all residents, especially political stakeholders, Fubara urged everyone to put the past behind and unite for the state’s future.

“To those still holding onto past political struggles, I say—let us turn the page. Let us work together toward progress and unity. The time to rebuild is now,” he said.

The governor closed his address with renewed confidence, pledging to continue working closely with the people to make Rivers State a model of peace, development, and good governance in Nigeria.
