Former Governor of Abia State and current Senator for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has advised President Bola Tinubu to remove some ministers and security chiefs, saying they are not doing enough to move Nigeria forward.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Kalu said bold decisions are needed if the country must see real progress.

“Some people working with President Tinubu should be relieved of their duties. Some of them should go—both from the security sector and among the ministers,” he stated.

Kalu noted that he had already discussed these issues privately with the President, but felt it was time to speak publicly. “If he takes my advice, most of these ministers should go. I’ve appraised them. That is the truth,” he added.

He also raised concerns about Nigeria’s worsening security situation, suggesting that some top security officials are not doing their jobs properly. “If he takes my advice, some of the security chiefs will also go. There is no sentiment about redeeming Nigeria,” he said.

President Tinubu came into office in May 2023 and formed the largest cabinet since 1999, appointing 45 ministers. However, in October 2024, he sacked five ministers, brought in seven new ones, and reassigned ten others.

Despite these changes, many Nigerians continue to face hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy, rising inflation, and economic reforms. Kalu acknowledged that Tinubu is trying to fix things, but said the ordinary people are yet to feel the impact.

“The macro side is coming, but Nigerians in the lower area are still suffering. They have not started seeing the benefits of the changes,” he said.

He further noted that insecurity is hurting the economy by keeping farmers away from their land. “Insurgencies and the problems all over Nigeria are still making people not go to the farm. It may take one to two years for the changes to fully come,” he concluded.

Kalu’s comments reflect growing pressure on the Tinubu administration to act more decisively in addressing economic challenges and insecurity across the country.
