The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of a lifeless body of a teenage boy near Hayin Kwarin Misau in Gombe metropolis, following a heavy rainfall on Sunday night.
Spokesman for the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement that the body, believed to be that of a 15-year-old boy, was found at a gully erosion site, suggesting he may have drowned due to the flood caused by the downpour.
According to the police, the Officer-in-Charge of the Hayin Kwarin Misau outstation reported the incident, prompting detectives to visit the scene for recovery and investigation.
“No injuries or signs of violence were found on the body, and no form of identification was discovered,” Abdullahi said.
The body was taken to Specialist Hospital Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
The police are now working to identify the deceased and trace his relatives. Members of the public with useful information are urged to contact the nearest police station.
The tragic incident highlights the dangers of open erosion sites and poor drainage during Nigeria’s rainy season, especially in urban areas like Gombe.
