Nigeria’s Super Falcons remain top of Group B at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after Algeria edged past Botswana with a 1-0 win on Sunday.
The only goal of the match came in the 10th minute through Ghoutia Karchouni, giving Algeria all three points in their opening game.
Earlier that same day, the Super Falcons delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Tunisia, thanks to goals from Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide, and Chiwendu Ihezuo.
With these results, Nigeria and Algeria are both on three points, but the Falcons sit top of the group due to their superior goal difference.
Botswana now sit in third place, while Tunisia are bottom with no points and a poor goal difference.
Algeria will face Tunisia in their next group match on July 10, while Nigeria prepares for its second game as they push for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
