Voting has officially begun at Polling Unit 007, located at St. Stephen’s Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his vote in the ongoing local government elections in Lagos State.
The exercise, which is aimed at electing chairmen and councillors across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), began at exactly 8:00 a.m. as scheduled.
Officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived early and set up the polling materials without delay. One of the early voters was Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, who cast his ballot at the same polling unit.
Security was tight at the venue, with police officers and other security agents present to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
The local government elections are being closely watched, as they are expected to test the popularity of political parties at the grassroots level across Lagos State.
