12-Year-Old Girl Killed in Edo Kidnapper Shootout

A 12-year-old girl was killed during a gunfight between Edo State Police operatives and suspected kidnappers on Friday, July 11, 2025. The incident occurred along the Fugar-Agenebode road in Etsako East Local Government Area.

According to Moses Yamu, Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, the girl was among passengers abducted by gunmen on the highway. The police, joined by local vigilantes and hunters, quickly responded to a distress call and pursued the kidnappers into the forest.

During a gun duel near Obe Hill, the security team successfully rescued 14 kidnapped passengers alive. Unfortunately, the girl was fatally shot by the fleeing kidnappers during the crossfire. One female victim remains missing, and search efforts continue to secure her release.

Yamu explained that the kidnappers ambushed commuters on the highway, killing two people on the spot and abducting others. Edo State Police Commissioner Monday Agbonika praised the bravery of the security forces and assured the public that efforts to capture the criminals are ongoing.

The police have increased patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and have extended condolences to the family of the deceased. The Command promises to bring the kidnappers to justice and ensure the safety of residents in the region.
