The Abia State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two people lost their lives in a road accident that occurred along the Umuahia–Arochukwu road on Saturday, July 12.
The Sector Commander, Mrs Ngozi Ezeoma, told reporters that the crash happened around 4:33 pm and involved a Mark truck and a tricycle with registration number ATN 201 VU.
According to her, the FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within minutes to begin emergency response. Preliminary investigations showed that the crash was likely caused by speeding and worsened by wet road conditions, as it was raining heavily at the time.
Ezeoma explained that while the road is paved, visibility and vehicle control were likely affected by the poor weather.
The injured victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for treatment, while the bodies of the two deceased were deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The sector commander extended condolences to the families of the victims and called on drivers to strictly obey speed limits, especially during bad weather. She emphasized the FRSC’s continued commitment to reducing road accidents and saving lives in Abia State and across the country.
