Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel members who are also supporting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it is wrong to belong to two parties at once.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ortom said the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) must take firm disciplinary action against such members.
“You cannot be in PDP and another party,” Ortom said. “It’s not feasible to maintain dual party memberships. One must choose to remain in PDP if that is their preference.”
Although he did not mention names, his comment comes at a time when several opposition figures, including PDP members, have shown support for a new coalition led by the ADC — while still claiming loyalty to their original parties.
This tension is particularly noticeable with Ortom’s close ally, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Wike, a PDP member, openly supported President Bola Tinubu of the APC during the 2023 election and has recently indicated support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
Ortom said the PDP could no longer ignore such cases. “Just today, I met someone advocating for a coalition,” he added. “I told him I’m back in PDP.”
Ortom’s call highlights growing internal pressure within the PDP as it faces challenges in maintaining unity ahead of future elections.
