Armed bandits launched deadly attacks on two villages in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday night, killing two residents, kidnapping 25 others, and stealing livestock and motorcycles.
The attacks, which took place around 10:30 p.m., began in Dogon Daji village in Nahuche District. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the village, abducted 25 people—including men, women, and children—and killed a local blacksmith, Muhammadu Kasu. They also stole a motorcycle and several cattle before fleeing.
Shortly after, the same group reportedly moved to nearby Danguro village, where they killed another resident, identified as Aminu Abubakar, and carted away five motorcycles.
Security operatives under Operation FANSAR YANMA, alongside other forces, responded to distress calls and confirmed the incidents. According to them, search and rescue operations are ongoing to recover the kidnapped victims and stolen livestock.
The attacks are part of a growing wave of insecurity in the North-West region, where rural communities have been repeatedly targeted by armed groups involved in kidnapping for ransom and cattle rustling.
Zamfara remains one of the worst-hit states, despite ongoing military operations. Residents are calling for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
