Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has thrown his weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition, saying the move is aimed at rescuing Nigeria from worsening hardship and not about personal political ambition.

Speaking with journalists in Dutse during a PDP event, Lamido, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the growing suffering across the country has made the coalition necessary.

“Any patriotic Nigerian with the common man in his heart must give his contribution to overturn the present administration to save the country—particularly the ordinary people, who are suffering in every sector,” Lamido said.

He stressed that his support for the ADC alliance does not mean he is leaving the PDP.

“I remain in PDP. It is the party we gave birth to, nurtured, and one that delivered progress to Nigeria and Nigerians. I will not leave it,” he said.

Lamido described his current political role as one of mentorship and national guidance, not personal ambition. He said his focus is now on contributing ideas to secure Nigeria’s future.

The gathering was attended by several political figures, including Senator Mustapha Khabeeb of Jigawa South West and ADC State Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Hussaini, whom Lamido introduced to PDP members.

Lamido’s comments come amid rising discontent with the current administration, especially over economic hardship and insecurity. The ADC coalition, backed by several opposition voices, is seen by some as an emerging front to challenge the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
