The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced that it will issue certificates of return to elected chairmen and councillors across the state on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
This follows the local government elections held on Saturday, July 12, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all 57 chairmanship positions and 375 out of 376 councillorship seats across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The only seat not won by the APC was in Ward D, Yaba LCDA, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu, defeated the APC contender.
Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), confirmed the certificate presentation in a phone call. She explained that the event was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was shifted due to a public holiday declared by the Federal Government to mourn former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari passed away on Sunday in a London hospital and will be buried on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
An official of LASIEC also confirmed that the presentation will take place at the commission’s headquarters in Sabo, Yaba.
“All elected local government chairmen and councillors are expected to receive their certificates of return on Wednesday,” the official said.
