The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that despite several accusations, no one was able to link former President Muhammadu Buhari to corruption during his time in office.
Bakare, who was Buhari’s running mate in the 2011 presidential election under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), made the statement while speaking on the legacy of the late president.
“A lot of accusations went, but nobody could pin any corruption on him. He fought the battle against corruption to the best of his ability. His best may not be good enough for some people, but he has done his best,” Bakare said.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, passed away on Sunday in London while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. He will be buried in Daura, Katsina State.
Throughout his presidency, Buhari was known for his strong stance on anti-corruption, although his administration was criticized by some for being selective in its fight. Still, many allies, including Bakare, have continued to defend his personal integrity even after his passing.
