A tragic accident at a construction site in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, has claimed the life of a crane operator, Rotimi Adesina. The incident occurred during crane operations, and despite efforts to save him, Adesina died at a nearby hospital.
In response, the Lagos State Safety Commission swiftly sealed off the site. The agency confirmed that preliminary investigations linked the death to on-site operations.
Officials from the commission, led by Director-General Lanre Mojola, visited the scene and questioned the Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu. They were asked to submit all documents related to the crane and overall site safety.
“All documents are currently held at the company’s head office and must be submitted for review,” Mojola said.
To prevent further harm, the site was officially sealed, and an abatement notice was issued, halting all activities until safety conditions are met.
Mojola offered condolences to the deceased’s family and stressed the government’s zero tolerance for safety breaches.
“We won’t compromise on lives. Safety must come first on every construction site in Lagos,” he added.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether safety regulations were ignored.
