The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three suspected robbers by angry youths in Maav-Ya community, Nyihemba district of Kwande Local Government Area.
The incident happened on Monday, July 15, around 11:00 a.m. when the suspects — Zwanen Terzungwe, Iordepuu Gwa, and Aondongu Terna — were reportedly caught by residents and taken to the community council hall.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects were accused of criminal activities in the area and were beaten to death by a mob before the police could arrive.
Security forces rushed to the scene after getting the report, but the youths involved had already fled. The corpses were taken to the Kwande General Hospital mortuary.
In a statement, the police condemned the act of jungle justice, stressing that no citizen has the right to take laws into their own hands, regardless of the crime suspected.
The command said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the killings.
Authorities have urged the public to always report suspected criminals to law enforcement for proper investigation and legal action.
