The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen three years ago.
The vehicle was discovered at the FRSC National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Desk Office in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, following a routine verification process.
According to the State Sector Commander, Mrs Joyce Alexander, the breakthrough came when an agent from the Board of Internal Revenue sent in vehicle details for confirmation. Checks on the NVIS database showed the vehicle had been missing for years.
“Upon verification, the owner was contacted and confirmed she had not seen the vehicle in three years,” Alexander said.
The owner presented the original documents to prove ownership, after which officers from the Anambra State Police Command were invited to handle the next steps.
Alexander described the recovery as a result of teamwork between the FRSC and other security agencies, and praised the efficiency of the NVIS database.
She advised vehicle owners to ensure their number plates are properly registered on the NVIS platform to make tracking and recovery of stolen vehicles easier.
“The Command remains committed to improving road safety and vehicle security across Anambra through the use of technology and collaboration,” she added.
The recovered vehicle will soon be returned to its rightful owner, according to the FRSC.
