The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed allegations by the Turkish Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, that the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) is active in Nigeria.

Poroy made the claim during an event in Abuja marking Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day. He alleged that members of the FETO group are operating in Nigeria, disguised as educational and healthcare institutions.

However, Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, called the ambassador’s statement unofficial and warned against accepting unverified foreign claims.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Kangye said Nigeria is a sovereign country capable of managing its own security and will not be distracted by unfounded allegations.

He said, “Information from the person you are talking about, as far as Defence Headquarters is concerned, is an unofficial announcement. Everybody is free to say whatever they want. There is freedom of information.”

This response highlights the government’s position on maintaining security and sovereignty amid external claims, reinforcing Nigeria’s stance on intelligence and counter-terrorism efforts.
