Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Momodu said his decision to back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was based on a deep political calculation. According to him, Atiku remains the most feared opposition figure in Nigeria today.

“Everybody is afraid of Atiku, and that is exactly why I, Dele Momodu, support him,” he said. “The fear the ruling party has for him shows he remains the most formidable opposition figure. When everyone is trying to discredit or silence a man, it means he’s the one they truly fear.”

Momodu, who ran for president in 2011 and also contested the PDP presidential primaries in 2022, said he joined the ADC to contribute to the broader goal of strengthening the opposition.

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and PDP’s presidential candidate in 2019 and 2023, is expected to be a major contender again in 2027. His influence continues to shape political conversations across the country.
