Immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has warned that northern governors and other elected officials will struggle to get re-elected in 2027 unless they join the opposition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on Trust TV, Babachir accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of marginalizing the North and failing to deliver development to the region.

“Which northern official will campaign under APC next election? Nobody,” he said. “Unless they join the ADC, they will not win because APC has failed the people.”

He revealed that the ADC has already been in talks with some northern governors about joining the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Babachir also supported former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s earlier criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government, saying there is little to no visible infrastructure work happening in northern Nigeria.

“No construction or federal projects are visible in the North,” he said. “Maybe some imaginary plans, but nothing real.”

Both Babachir and Kwankwaso, who share technical backgrounds, are concerned about the lack of development in the region.

Kwankwaso had earlier accused the Tinubu administration of focusing resources on the South, the president’s home region, while neglecting the North.

Babachir’s comments add to growing voices calling for more attention and fairness in Nigeria’s development policies ahead of the 2027 elections.
