There is rising fear in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State after armed bandits launched a deadly ambush on a security team, killing four people and making away with weapons and uniforms.

The attack, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday in the Dogon Ruwa community of Bashar District, claimed the lives of two soldiers and two vigilante members.

This incident comes barely a month after more than 70 vigilantes were killed in a similar ambush by bandits in the same local government.

According to the village head of Dogon Ruwa, Abdullahi Yakubu, the security team had responded to a distress call from residents who feared an imminent attack. The team was reportedly trailing the gang based on earlier sightings when they fell into an ambush.

“The bandits opened fire unexpectedly and killed two soldiers and two vigilante members,” Yakubu told reporters. “After the attack, they stole the soldiers’ rifles and uniforms before escaping.”
