A tragic incident occurred on Monday in the Mayo-Goyi community of Jalingo, Taraba State, where a newly recruited soldier, identified as Dauda Dedan, allegedly stabbed a police officer to death.
The victim, Aaron John, was a serving officer with the Taraba State Police Command. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the officer had responded to a distress call from residents reporting a dispute involving the soldier.
While trying to intervene, Officer John was fatally stabbed by the suspect, who fled the scene shortly after.
The PPRO said the matter had been reported to the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and both security agencies have launched a joint effort to locate and arrest the suspect.
“We have received full assurances from the Army that the fugitive soldier will be tracked down and brought to justice. The soldier’s residence has already been visited,” the police spokesman stated.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the police stressed that relations between the Army and Police in Taraba remain strong, and both institutions are working closely to ensure justice is served.
