The Oyo State Government has denied a message circulating among pensioners claiming there is a new verification exercise.

In a statement released on Friday in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Professor Salihu Adelabu, said the message is fake and should be ignored.

The false notice reportedly asked pensioners to submit photocopies of their pension certificate, bank account details, and phone numbers to the ministry.

Prof. Adelabu advised retirees not to respond to such messages, warning that it is likely a scam aimed at defrauding unsuspecting pensioners.

He explained that the ministry will only reach out to pensioners when it is officially their turn to receive benefits. He added that all valid government messages are shared through trusted and recognised channels.

The commissioner also urged pensioners to always verify any suspicious message before taking action. He assured that the state government remains committed to the welfare of retirees and will continue to follow due process in pension and gratuity matters.

Prof. Adelabu ended by calling on the public to share only verified information, stressing that protecting pensioners from fraud is everyone’s responsibility.
