Senator Maidoki Raises Alarm as Bandits Overrun Kebbi South

Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, has raised serious concerns over the rising wave of bandit attacks in his constituency, saying the people are more concerned about survival than infrastructure.

Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary session at the National Assembly, Maidoki made an emotional appeal, saying residents of Kebbi South live in constant fear as armed groups continue to overrun communities.

“Please save our lives, save our people. We are not bothered about roads or schools now; our people’s lives are in danger,” the senator said.

He stressed that several villages in his district have been attacked, forcing many residents to flee their homes. According to him, entire communities are now displaced, and those left behind live under daily threat of violence.

The senator also criticised the lack of effective action from security agencies, accusing them of making claims without real impact on the ground.

“Today they will say they are here, tomorrow they are there, but in reality, no action is taking place,” he said.

Maidoki called on the Senate to compel the armed forces and other security agencies to submit weekly reports on their operations in affected states. This, he said, would ensure accountability and allow for better monitoring of anti-banditry efforts.

“We need the Senate to compel the armed forces to provide weekly progress reports, state by state,” he insisted.

The senator warned that recent successes in the fight against insecurity could be reversed if urgent steps are not taken to strengthen military operations in troubled areas like Kebbi South.

Kebbi State, especially the southern part, has in recent years faced increasing attacks from armed groups believed to be bandits. These attacks often include killings, kidnappings, and destruction of property. Many rural areas have been left abandoned due to the violence.

While the Federal Government and military have launched several operations in the North-West to curb insecurity, many local leaders say the results have been slow or ineffective in some regions.
