President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Vice President Namadi Sambo on his turbanning as the Sardaunan Zazzau, a traditional title of great honour in the Zazzau Emirate of Kaduna State.
The title will be formally conferred on Sambo by the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, on Saturday, October 11, during a ceremony expected to attract dignitaries from across the country.
President Tinubu’s message was contained in a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
In the statement, the President described the honour as a fitting recognition of Sambo’s legacy of leadership, humility, and dedication to public service.
“The title of Sardaunan Zazzau, a position of great cultural and historical significance in Northern Nigeria, reflects the Emirate’s confidence in Sambo’s wisdom, integrity, and commitment to societal progress,” Tinubu said.
The President praised Sambo’s contributions to Nigeria’s development, saying the former Vice President had shown exceptional character both in office and beyond.
“President Tinubu acknowledges Sambo’s record of humility, statesmanship, and dedication to humanity. His well-deserved investiture as Sardaunan Zazzau further underscores his deep-rooted service to his community and the nation,” the statement read.
The Sardauna title is one of the most respected traditional titles in Northern Nigeria. It has historically been reserved for individuals who have demonstrated leadership, loyalty to the Emirate, and service to the people. Notably, the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, also held the title of Sardauna of Sokoto.
President Tinubu also commended the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Bamalli, for preserving the tradition of honouring deserving individuals who embody values of integrity and unity.
“President Tinubu commends the Emir for upholding the noble tradition of honouring individuals whose character and patriotism reflect the Emirate’s values and the spirit of service,” the statement added.
Namadi Sambo served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 2010 to 2015 under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He also previously served as Governor of Kaduna State.
