Tragedy in Katsina Community as Newlywed Husband Allegedly Stabbed by Wife

    Share

Residents of Tashar Aibo in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State have been thrown into shock and confusion after a young man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife only three days after their wedding. The tragic incident, which happened on Sunday afternoon, has left the quiet community struggling to understand how a newlywed couple could descend so quickly into violence.

The victim, popularly known in the area as Dan Gaske Mai Masara, was a maize seller who many residents described as humble, calm, and hardworking. According to neighbours, he was resting at home when his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife, stabbing him in the neck while he was asleep.

The couple had tied the knot on Thursday, November 18, 2025, in what locals said was a joyful celebration attended by friends, family, and well-wishers. No one in the community expected such a grim turn of events so soon after the wedding.

On Sunday, many residents gathered in front of the victim’s small maize shop, whispering in confusion and grief as the news spread. Those who knew him well described him as a peaceful young man who rarely quarreled with anyone.

“He was a kind person,” one resident said. “We still cannot believe he is gone. This is a tragedy for the whole community.”

Others expressed disbelief that his wife could be involved. Local sources say the couple had no known history of conflict, and many people are struggling to understand what may have led to the alleged stabbing.

Authorities in Katsina State have not yet released an official statement on the incident, but security operatives in the area have reportedly begun investigations. The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, including what might have triggered the alleged attack or whether there were early signs of trouble in the marriage.

Police are expected to release more details as investigations progress. For now, residents say they are waiting for the true cause of the tragedy to be uncovered.

Though the details of the Tashar Aibo incident are still unfolding, domestic violence has become a growing concern in Nigeria. Both men and women have been victims of violent attacks by their partners, sometimes with fatal consequences.

Human rights organisations say factors such as emotional stress, economic hardship, early marriage, lack of conflict resolution skills, and untreated mental health issues can contribute to violent confrontations. In recent years, several high-profile cases across the country have drawn attention to the dangers of unresolved domestic disputes.

However, in this Katsina case, residents say there were no clear signs that the couple had serious problems. Their wedding was said to have been well attended, and many still recall seeing the wife looking cheerful during the ceremony.

Tashar Aibo is a small farming community not far from the Jibia border region, an area known for both close-knit relationships and, at times, security challenges due to its location near the Niger Republic border. But despite the wider insecurity in the region, many residents say they feel safe among their neighbours and rarely witness violent incidents within households.

The alleged killing has therefore deeply unsettled the community. Some older residents said they could not recall a similar tragedy involving a newly married couple. Others fear the incident may cause tension or suspicion among extended family members.

Many in the community gathered on Sunday evening to offer prayers for the soul of the deceased and comfort his family. His relatives have been described as devastated, struggling to accept the loss of a son just days after celebrating a wedding.

As of Monday afternoon, authorities are yet to issue a formal report, and the fate of the wife remains unclear. It is also unknown whether she has been arrested or is receiving medical attention. Police sources in the region often take time before releasing official statements, especially in sensitive cases involving families.
