President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as he marks his 58th birthday on December 13, describing him as an “exceptional performer” whose dedication to public service continues to make a significant impact.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, for a life marked by purpose, courage, and remarkable contributions to the nation.
President Tinubu described Wike as “an audacious top performer who defies obstacles and delivers results,” highlighting his important role in the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory through an ambitious infrastructure renewal agenda.
Among the projects singled out by the President was Wike’s recent intervention that ended a 14-year delay in the construction of the Apo–Karshi Road, one of the key arteries connecting the FCT to neighboring communities. Tinubu praised Wike’s resilience, commitment to excellence, and “can-do attitude” in executing projects that directly benefit citizens.
“Nyesom Wike has been one of the shining stars in the cabinet — an exceptional performer, developing infrastructure in the Federal Capital as never seen before and proving that his moniker as ‘Mr Project’ is not limited to his home state of Rivers,” the President said.
Tinubu’s commendation comes at a time when the FCT is witnessing significant infrastructural and social development under Wike’s supervision. Roads, drainage systems, and other civic projects are being prioritized to ensure the rapid modernization of the nation’s capital. Observers note that Wike’s interventions have helped address longstanding challenges that had slowed development in parts of Abuja.
President Tinubu also recognized Wike’s ability to work across political lines, describing him as one of the “champions of our Renewed Hope Agenda,” despite belonging to a different political party. This remark reflects Wike’s growing national reputation as a results-driven administrator capable of delivering tangible improvements regardless of political affiliations.
In his statement, Tinubu wished Wike good health, renewed strength, and continued success in his role as FCT Minister. “I commend him for being one of the champions of our Renewed Hope Agenda, even though he belongs to another party, and wish him continued strength and fulfillment as he marks another year in his life journey,” the President added.
Wike’s birthday is also being seen as an opportunity to reflect on his journey in public service. The minister previously served as Governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, during which he earned a reputation for prioritizing infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development. His administration completed numerous road networks, rehabilitated schools and hospitals, and introduced policies aimed at job creation and investment promotion.
As FCT Minister, Wike has continued this legacy of infrastructure-focused governance. The Apo–Karshi Road project, for example, has long been plagued by delays and stalled work, frustrating residents and commuters. Wike’s intervention revived the project, ensuring that it is now on track for completion, a move that has been widely welcomed by residents and political observers alike.
Public reactions to the President’s praise have been largely positive, with many acknowledging Wike’s role in transforming Abuja’s landscape. Social media platforms have seen an outpouring of congratulatory messages, highlighting his contributions to both Rivers State and the FCT. Supporters describe him as a “hands-on leader” and a “model of effective governance” who continues to prioritize public welfare.
Beyond roads, Wike has been involved in other strategic projects in the FCT, including drainage systems, urban renewal initiatives, and improvements in public spaces. His administration is also credited with implementing measures to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in project execution.
As Nyesom Wike celebrates his 58th birthday, the President’s acknowledgment not only marks a personal milestone for the minister but also highlights his contributions to national development. Observers say that such recognition is significant in encouraging public officials to remain committed to service delivery and to prioritize results over political considerations.
