Edo Poll: APC’s Okpebholo Promises 24-Hour Electricity

As the Edo State gubernatorial election draws closer, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has made bold promises to the people of Edo State. At a campaign rally held in Orhionmwon Local Government Area on Friday, Okpebholo pledged to ensure a 24-hour electricity supply across the state if elected governor.

He also promised to create a more supportive environment for farmers and artisans, including offering loan incentives to boost agricultural productivity and move the state toward self-sufficiency in food production.

One of the most significant promises made by Okpebholo is his commitment to providing 24-hour electricity to the people of Edo State. In a region where inconsistent power supply has long been a challenge, this pledge has the potential to resonate deeply with voters who are tired of the disruptions caused by frequent blackouts.

“We understand the impact that constant power supply can have on businesses, schools, and households,” Okpebholo said during his speech. “My administration will prioritize electricity because it is the backbone of economic development. With 24-hour power, we can transform Edo State into a hub of innovation and industry.”

The issue of power supply is a pressing one for many residents of Edo State. The state’s economic activities, particularly in rural areas, have been hampered by unreliable electricity. Businesses, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), often struggle to operate efficiently due to power outages. By focusing on improving electricity, Okpebholo is tapping into a critical need of the electorate.

In addition to addressing the power supply, Okpebholo emphasized his plans to support farmers and artisans across the state. He highlighted the importance of creating an enabling environment for agriculture, which he believes is key to achieving food security in Edo State.

“Agriculture remains the bedrock of our economy,” Okpebholo stated. “We must empower our farmers with the tools they need to succeed. This includes providing them with access to loans and creating a secure environment where they can thrive.”

The APC candidate promised to introduce loan incentives for farmers, which would help them invest in better seeds, equipment, and technologies. This, he believes, will not only increase food production but also create jobs and reduce poverty in rural communities.

During his campaign stop in Igbanke East and West, Okpebholo pledged to complete the roads that were started during the administration of former governor Adams Oshiomhole but left unfinished. The state of infrastructure in many parts of Edo State has been a source of frustration for residents, and Okpebholo’s promise to address this issue is likely to gain support.

“We cannot continue to leave our roads in this state of disrepair,” Okpebholo said. “My administration will ensure that these projects are completed, and our people can travel and transport goods with ease.”

Beyond infrastructure, Okpebholo also addressed concerns about the state’s educational and healthcare systems. He promised to employ more teachers for schools in Orhionmwon Local Government Area and to staff the primary health facilities with qualified medical personnel. These promises reflect his broader vision of improving the quality of life for all Edo residents.

Security for farmers was another key point in Okpebholo’s campaign speech. He vowed to prioritize the safety and security of farmers in the state, ensuring that they can work without fear of attacks or theft.

“Our farmers are the backbone of our state’s economy,” Okpebholo explained. “We must protect them and their livelihoods. By doing so, we will encourage more people to take up farming, and this will lead to greater food production and economic growth.”

This focus on security is particularly important in rural areas, where incidents of farmer-herder conflicts have been reported. By committing to improve security, Okpebholo is addressing a critical concern that affects not just the economy, but also the social fabric of the state.

Speaking at the rally in Igbanke, Oformer governor Adams Oshiomhole and the Director-General of the APC Campaign, Matthew Urhoghide canvassed for the candidate. Oshiomhole emphasised his connection to the community and the work he did during his time as governor. He reminded the people of the infrastructure projects initiated during his administration and urged them to support Okpebholo, whom he described as a candidate with the vision and commitment to continue the work of development in the state.

“When I was in government, I worked closely with the sons and daughters of Igbanke,” Oshiomhole said. “We need to continue that partnership by electing a governor who understands the needs of our people and is ready to address them. Senator Okpebholo is that governor.”

Urhoghide also highlighted the broad support for Okpebholo’s candidacy, noting that both Edo North and South had agreed on the Esan Agenda, which led to the selection of Okpebholo as the party’s candidate.

“We have chosen Senator Okpebholo because he is a candidate who listens and will meet the needs of the people,” Urhoghide said. “On election day, we need to come out in large numbers and vote for the APC to ensure that Edo State moves forward.”

As the September 21 gubernatorial election approaches, the stakes are high for Edo State.

“The future of Edo State is in our hands,” Okpebholo concluded. “We have the opportunity to elect a government that will work for the people, a government that will bring development and prosperity to every corner of our state. Let’s make that choice together.”
