The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.

The announcement was made on Thursday, by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi.

The 2024 SSCE results were released after the successful completion of the examinations held from Wednesday, 19th June to Friday, 26th July 2024.

Professor Wushishi, in his statement, provided a detailed breakdown of candidates’ performance and important insights into the examination process.

A total of 1,376,436 candidates participated in the 2024 SSCE internal examination. Out of this number, 828,284 candidates obtained credits in both English Language and Mathematics.

This represents a 60.55% success rate, a notable achievement for the candidates who sat for this year’s exams.

Breaking down the results further, 1,147,597 candidates, accounting for 83.9% of the total, secured five credits or more in their subjects, regardless of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.

Professor Wushishi also pointed out that 2,267 candidates with special needs were among those who sat for the examinations, ensuring inclusivity in the process.

NECO’s announcement of the 2024 SSCE results was highly anticipated by students across the country.

Many of these students had been anxiously awaiting their results to secure university admission. Unfortunately, due to the delay in releasing the results, many candidates may have missed out on the current academic year’s admission process.

Most universities in Nigeria have already closed their admission portals, leaving many students unable to apply for admission in 2024.

This has created a significant setback for those whose future education plans depended on the timely release of their NECO results.

Professor Wushishi also shared some encouraging news about the reduced number of examination malpractice cases recorded this year.

According to him, 8,437 cases of malpractice were reported in 2024, a significant reduction compared to the 12,030 cases recorded in 2023.

This represents a 30.1% decrease in exam malpractice, demonstrating the council’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.

The NECO registrar also highlighted the performance of candidates across different states.

The top-performing states in the 2024 SSCE include Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi, which recorded the highest number of successful candidates.

In contrast, the states with the lowest performances were Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Zamfara.

The release of the 2024 SSCE results was accompanied by the introduction of a new system for checking results online.

Candidates are required to use a “result checker token” to access their scores on the NECO portal.

According to NECO, each token allows candidates to check their results up to five times before it expires.
