The Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State, Auwal Danladi Sankara, has denied allegations of being involved in an extramarital affair with a married woman in Kano State.
The Kano State Hisbah Board arrested Sankara on Thursday night after he was allegedly caught in an uncompleted building with a married woman. The woman’s husband, Nasiru Bulama, had filed a complaint, accusing the commissioner of engaging in illicit activities with his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
The Hisbah Board is Kano’s religious police force, which enforces Islamic laws, including those related to morality and behavior.
Sankara, however, firmly denies the allegations.
In a statement released after his arrest, he described the accusations as false, baseless, and malicious.
“My attention has been drawn to a recent media report alleging that I, Auwal D. Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Jigawa State Government, have been arrested by the Kano Hisbah Command on accusations of having an affair with a married woman,” Sankara said in his statement.
“I categorically state that these allegations are completely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation.”
The commissioner emphasized that the story had been fabricated by political enemies to damage his character and integrity.
“I urge the public to disregard this fabricated story, which has been concocted by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity,” he said.
Sankara is also threatening legal action against those responsible for spreading what he called false information.
“I take this matter seriously and will seek legal redress against those spreading this false information and attempting to harm my person,” he added.
Meteor had reported that the arrest of Commissioner Sankara took place on Thursday night along Lamido Crescent Road in Nassarawa GRA, Kano.
According to the Director-General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Dr. Abba Sufi, Sankara was caught with a married woman in an uncompleted building.
The woman’s husband, Nasiru Bulama, reportedly filed a complaint with the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Hisbah Board, accusing Sankara of engaging in an extramarital affair with his wife.
Sufi confirmed that Sankara had been taken into custody and was being held at the Kurmawa Correctional Centre in Kano.
“It is an unfortunate incident,” Sufi told reporters. “Sankara was arrested at a hidden place along Lamido Crescent Road. He is now at the Kurmawa prison.”
The allegations have sparked widespread attention, as Sankara holds a high-ranking position in the Jigawa State government. His arrest, along with the accusations of engaging in an illicit affair, has caused controversy across the region.
The incident began when Nasiru Bulama, the husband of the woman involved, raised concerns about the relationship between his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, and Commissioner Sankara.
Bulama claimed that Sankara had been secretly meeting with his wife, engaging in improper conduct. He accused the commissioner of using an uncompleted building as a hideout for their meetings.
The woman involved, Tasleem, is said to be the mother of two children. Bulama’s accusations have not only brought public attention to the matter but have also involved law enforcement agencies like the DSS and the Hisbah Board.
It is alleged that Sankara and the woman were discovered together on Thursday night, leading to their immediate arrest by Hisbah officials.
Despite the gravity of the accusations, Sankara has consistently maintained his innocence.
In his statement, he defended his commitment to upholding moral values and respecting the institution of marriage.
“As a married man, I have the utmost respect for the institution of marriage and would never engage in actions that violate its sanctity,” he said. “I remain dedicated to upholding the values and principles I stand for.”
Sankara firmly believes that the allegations against him are politically motivated and designed to tarnish his image. He accused his political rivals of fabricating the story to destroy his reputation.
