    Ajayi Crowther: Police arraign 23 students, two varsity workers for student’s brutal  beating

    Twenty-five suspects of the Ajayi Crowther University indicted in the beating of their fellow students who later died have been arraigned before an Oyo State Chief Magistrate Court. The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday in Ibadan.

    A court document, the charge sheet, Charge No. m734.c/2024, obtained same day listed the names of the suspects and the trial court.

    The arraignment took place on Wednesday in Ibadan. According to court documents, including the charge sheet (Charge No. m734.c/2024) obtained the same day, the names of the suspects and the trial court were listed.

    The court has remanded them in prison until July 8th, pending trial.

    The oldest of the suspects is 34 years old Oladoye Femi Ola and the youngest, who are 18 years old, are Oyelakin Iyanuoluwapo, Adejumobi Emmanuel, Afesojaye Emmanuel, Femi Oloyede and Daudu John Oluwasegun.

    The six-count charge accused the suspects of conducting a trial by ordeal on the late student on the 24th day of May, 2024, at about 9:00pm, at Ajayi Crowther University.

    The prosecutor, Funke Fawole, a Chief Supritendent of Police, who is also the officer commanding of the Legal/Prosecution section of the Oyo State Police Command relied on the investigations conducted by a police team led by Inspector Ojeniran of State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State.

    “COUNT II: That you…on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully cause the death of one AKRO JEFRY ‘M’ AGE 22YRS by beating him with planks and electrical wire all over his body and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

    “COUNT III:-That you..on the 24th day of May, 2024, at about 9:00pm, at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo in the Oyo Magisterial district triable in the Ibadan Magisterial district did Conspire with one another to commit felony to wit: Acceleration of death and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

    “COUNT IV:- That you OLADOVE FEMI OLA ‘M’ and KEHINDE OLABUSUYI MARTINS ‘M’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district being the security guard and Porter employed by the University did unlawfully omit to rescue one AKRO JEFRY ‘M’ AGE 22YRS from other aggrieved students who beat him to death and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 311 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.”
