The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has completed its mandate and submitted its report to the Federal Government.
The completion of the committee’s work was disclosed via a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations at the office of the secretary to the government of the federation.
The 37-man committee, inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was tasked with the responsibility of recommending a new national minimum wage for workers across both public and private sectors.
The committee’s formation, as per the provisions of the Minimum Wage Act of 2019, was the executive’s initiative to resolve the longstanding issue of minimum wage adjustment in Nigeria.
After months of deliberations, consultations, and data analysis, the committee concluded its assignment and formally submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday, 10th June 2024.
The formal presentation of the report to President Tinubu is pending the return of key stakeholders from the ongoing International Labour Organization (ILO) Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
Representatives from organized labor, the government, and the private sector are currently attending the conference.
