Damola Ilesanmi, a married father of two, had his life cut short tragically shortly shortly after sharing his excitement about a new job opportunity with the NHS on LinkedIn.
Having recently graduated from the University of Bradford in the UK, Ilesanmi left behind a successful career in Nigeria to pursue a fresh start in the UK.
However, his dreams were shattered when he succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest on June 6, just after he made the announcement about his upcoming job.
Scheduled to commence his new role on Monday, June 10, fate dealt a cruel blow, leaving his family and friends devastated.
Across social media platforms, both his friends abroad and those who had worked alongside him in Nigeria are mourning the untimely loss of a promising individual.
Days before his death he had posted the good news on Linkedin titling the post, “#Perseverance Pays Off: My journey to Joining the NHS.”
“I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted an offer to join the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust as an Organisational Development Systems Officer, a role I will resume in a few days.
“The job market in the United Kingdom is incredibly competitive, and the journey to this point has not been easy. Despite submitting hundreds of applications with numerous assessments, presentations, and interviews, I have never given up. Each rejection, although disheartening, especially after investing time in extensive tasks, has only fuelled my determination to keep pushing forward.
“However, through consistent effort and perseverance, I have learned that it will only take one YES to change everything. And recently, that YES finally came.
“My advice to international students and recent graduates who may be seeking a job is to please not give up, as your congratulations are around the corner.
“I am deeply grateful to the NHS for giving me this opportunity and I must say that one of the things that interests me most about this role is the focus on Organisational Development. The chance to contribute to projects that drive organizational growth and efficiency is exciting.
“I look forward to bringing my skills and passion to the team and contributing to such a vital organization.I am excited to embark on this new chapter with the NHS
