Top government officials have underscored the transformative potential of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project on Nigeria’s economy and industrial sector, during a site inspection at the River Kaduna crossing milestone.
The visit, led by three cabinet Ministers and representatives from NNPC Ltd., emphasised the project’s role in enhancing economic growth and fostering industrialisation across the country.
The ministers on site included Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris Malagi; and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo.
They lauded the AKK Gas Pipeline as pivotal to President’s strategy of achieving national prosperity.
Edun described the pipeline as “the pipeline of prosperity,” crucial for triggering economic growth and industrialisation.
“Its completion aligns with Mr. President’s vision to deliver critical infrastructure,” he emphasised.
Malagi hailed the AKK Gas Pipeline as a cornerstone of the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas,” asserting that its completion would unfold new opportunities and economic vitality.
“Prosperity envisioned by Mr. President is materializing before us,” he remarked.
Ekpo highlighted the pipeline’s strategic importance in leveraging Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for power generation, industrial revitalization, and job creation.
NNPC Ltd.’s Group CEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, affirmed the commitment to timely project delivery, stating, “We assure you this Project will be delivered by the first quarter of 2025.”
He expressed confidence in meeting deadlines despite challenges, citing substantial progress already achieved.
Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Uba Sani, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, highlighted the anticipated economic revival in Kaduna State, particularly in the Kakuri Industrial Area, once the pipeline is operational.
“The AKK Gas Pipeline will revamp our industries and positively impact our people,” Governor Sani’s representative emphasised.
The AKK Gas Pipeline, spanning 614 km from Ajaokuta in Kogi State to Kano, aims to supply natural gas to Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, with associated facilities to support distribution and utilisation.
