The Lagos State Police Command has initiated legal proceedings against the organizers of the Global Property Conference.
This event is set to take place on November 9, 2024, at the Land Mark Event Centre on Victoria Island.
The police have accused the organizers of using the name and picture of the state police commissioner, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, on promotional materials without permission.
Misuse of Authority
According to the police, the flyers advertising the conference have raised concerns about the legitimacy of the event.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified that they are not affiliated with the conference in any way.
Benjamin referred to the flyers as “the handiwork of mischief makers” attempting to exploit the name and image of CP Ishola for their benefit.
The statement read, “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to alert the general public that the Command is not aware of a programme tagged Global Property Conference whose flyer carries the name and picture of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, psc+, mnips.”
He emphasized the importance of public awareness, urging citizens to disregard any perceived association between the police commissioner and the event.
Legal Measures Underway
The police have made it clear that they will not tolerate the misuse of their authority.
“Members of the public are urged to disregard the purported link of CP Olanrewaju Ishola with the programme,” Benjamin stated.
He added, “The Command has commenced necessary legal action against the organisers of the programme.”
This development raises questions about the accountability of event organizers in Lagos and the need for stricter regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
