    Nollywood fans can breathe a sigh of relief!

    Amid swirling rumors about the status of Lisabi: A Legend Is Born and its partnership with Netflix, actor and executive producer Adedimeji Lateef has clarified the situation.

    In a statement shared by his team, Lateef reassured fans that the blockbuster sequel will premiere on Netflix in January 2025 as originally planned.

    “There’s no cause for alarm,” Lateef’s statement read. “Our relationship with Netflix remains intact, and we’re excited to deliver the second part of this epic tale as promised.”

    The update comes after social media buzz suggested potential challenges in the collaboration between the Lisabi franchise and the global streaming giant.

    Lisabi: A Legend Is Born follows the success of Lisabi: The Uprising, which debuted on Netflix in September 2024.

    The epic drama, set in 18th-century Yorubaland, chronicles the rebellion led by Egba farmer-turned-warrior Lisabi against the oppressive Oyo Empire.

    Lisabi’s defiance resulted in a stunning victory over 6,000 Oyo soldiers and marked the beginning of Egba independence.

    Lateef, who played the titular role, described the movie as “a celebration of Yoruba resilience and culture.”

    “This is for the Egba people, the Yoruba, and the entire Black community worldwide,” he said in a heartfelt post on social media earlier this year.

    The Vision Behind Lisabi

    The Lisabi project is more than just entertainment for Lateef Adedimeji.

    Following the acclaim of his 2021 biopic Ayinla, the actor was inspired to continue celebrating his Egba heritage.

    “After my exploits in Ayinla, I knew I had to do this,” Lateef wrote. “Lisabi’s story is one that needs to be told on a global stage.”
