In a heartwarming display of respect and unity, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, led a delegation of South-West monarchs to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari at his home in Daura, Katsina State.
The two-day courtesy visit, which took place this week, allowed the monarchs to check on Buhari’s health and well-being over a year after he left office.
During the visit, the Ooni praised Buhari’s warm hospitality, noting that the former president appeared in “remarkably high spirits” despite the years of service and recent transition into private life.
“He’s 30 years younger right now,” the Ooni said, a statement that reflects both his admiration for the former leader and his optimism about Buhari’s life post-presidency.
Oba Ogunwusi also assured the nation that Buhari is “living super well” and that his health is in excellent condition.
“When you see him, you will be completely shocked at how relaxed and vibrant he is, radiating good spirits,” the Ooni continued.
“He looks remarkably younger than his age, and God has truly blessed him with renewed good health.”
The monarch’s visit to Daura was a deeply personal one, as he expressed his primary reason for the trip was to check on Buhari’s well-being.
“This visit is fundamentally to check on the health of our former president after more than a year since his departure from office,” Oba Ogunwusi explained.
“We must always ensure that our leaders are in good health, as their well-being reflects on the progress of our country.”
The visit was not just a private affair but an important diplomatic engagement, underscoring the significance of maintaining strong connections between Nigeria’s traditional leaders and former political figures.
Ooni Ogunwusi emphasized that such relationships are crucial for fostering national unity and advancing the country’s development.
“We must continue to strengthen the bond between leaders across the nation. This is essential in ensuring the growth and prosperity of Nigeria for all its citizens,” he added.
Buhari graciously welcomed the monarch and his entourage, expressing his delight at receiving them.
“It’s always a privilege to receive Kabiyesi and his esteemed entourage of kings,” Buhari said.
The former president also took the opportunity to highlight the importance of national unity, stating that it is vital for the country’s progress.
“We must continue to pray for the unity of our country. Let us hold these leaders in our thoughts and pray for the best for Nigeria,” Buhari stated.
His unwavering belief in Nigeria’s potential and future remained a central theme throughout the meeting.
Accompanying the Ooni were several other prominent South-West traditional rulers, including the Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adewole; the Oore of Otun Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo; and the Alara of Ilara Epe, Lagos State, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo.
As the visit concluded, Oba Ogunwusi expressed hope that such engagements would continue to foster understanding and collaboration between the different leaders of the nation.
“We must continue to work together, as one Nigeria, with the common goal of ensuring peace, development, and prosperity for all,” the Ooni said.
