Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, has shed light on why President Bola Tinubu appointed the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

In a speech during the 57th birthday celebration of Wike’s successor as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Akpabio highlighted Wike’s exceptional leadership and dedication to public service.

According to Akpabio, Wike’s appointment was based on his stellar record of service in various roles, including as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister, and two-term governor.

“Let me tell you why you were nominated into the FEC by President Tinubu despite being an opposition politician,” Akpabio said. “Your performance, as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister, and two-term governor gave you the job.”

Akpabio went on to praise Wike’s remarkable work ethic, noting that in his current role as the FCT Minister, he had transformed Abuja into a model city.
