FAAN Shuts Lagos Airport Runway for Rehabilitation

    Share

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) recently announced a temporary closure of one of the key runways at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMA), Lagos. This decision, while inconvenient for some, is part of an important maintenance project to ensure the continued safety and smooth operation of the airport. Here’s what you need to know about the closure and how it might affect your travel plans.

Starting at 03:00 hours on March 3rd, 2025, the 18R/36L runway will be temporarily shut down for rehabilitation, which is expected to last until 23:59 hours on March 4th, 2025. The closure is necessary to carry out essential work on the asphalt phase of the A2 Taxiway-link of the runway.

Murtala Muhammed International Airport is the busiest international gateway in Nigeria. As such, keeping the airport’s infrastructure in top condition is essential for maintaining safety and ensuring smooth flight operations.

This rehabilitation work is part of FAAN’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the airport remains operational, safe, and efficient for both airlines and passengers.

While it’s understandable that a temporary closure might raise concerns for travelers, FAAN has assured the public that it will not disrupt flights. During the closure, all flights will be redirected to the alternative runway 18L/36R, which will remain fully operational. The agency has worked closely with airlines to ensure minimal disruptions to flight schedules.
