Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have arrested a 43-year-old woman, Damilola Ajenifuja, for allegedly attacking her nine-year-old son, causing serious injuries to his head. The shocking incident occurred in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area, on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
The arrest was confirmed by the Head of Communication for Ekiti Amotekun, Abiodun Adeleye, in a statement released to the public on Tuesday. According to Adeleye, the woman allegedly used a pestle, a heavy kitchen tool, to strike her son on the head as a form of punishment for what she believed was his misbehaviour.
Adeleye explained that the woman had become enraged after her son reportedly misbehaved, and as a result, she allegedly attacked him with the pestle, causing serious injuries to his head. “The suspect mercilessly hit her son on the head, which she devised as a punishment measure for his wrongdoings,” Adeleye said.
Following the incident, the boy was reportedly left with visible injuries, prompting neighbours and concerned members of the community to alert the authorities. Amotekun officers swiftly responded and arrested Ajenifuja, who later confessed to the crime during interrogation. The woman is said to have acknowledged her actions and explained that she used the pestle in an attempt to punish her son.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Efon-Ekiti Police Division for further investigation and appropriate action. Adeleye reassured the public that the case would be thoroughly examined by the police to ensure justice is served.
“The suspect has been promptly handed over to the Police Division in Efon-Ekiti for further investigation and necessary action,” he stated
The incident has reignited discussions about child protection and the need for stronger measures to prevent child abuse in Nigeria.
