A woman from Kenya, Helen Ati, has stirred public attention by threatening to take her paternity battle with Nigerian socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest to a traditional shrine in Nsukka, Enugu State.
In an emotionally charged video shared on social media, Helen accused Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, of denying paternity of her son and refusing to take a DNA test. She claimed that she has been raising the child alone while receiving no form of support from the celebrity businessman.
Helen did not hold back in her video message, saying she would not stop fighting until he takes full responsibility for the boy she alleges is his biological son.
“I will report you to the Nsukka deity at the shrine in Igbo land. I will quietly report to you there, and you won’t know. Nobody will know I am in Nigeria,” she said.
Helen expressed deep frustration in the video, accusing Cubana Chief Priest of mocking her situation publicly while she continues to face hardship trying to raise the child alone. According to her, the Nigerian celebrity has not only ignored her pleas but also allegedly ridiculed her efforts on social media.
She stated,
“Don’t play with me. You worry me too much. You think it’s a joke? You don’t want to return my star. You don’t want to take care of this boy, you don’t want to do DNA. You just want me to suffer. Upon that, you are mocking and laughing at me.”
In what appears to be a last resort, she warned that if Cubana Chief Priest does not respond, she will seek justice the traditional way—by presenting her case before a traditional deity in Nsukka, a method still respected in many Igbo communities.
“I will go and report to the Nsukka deity in Igbo land, and you know the consequences. Come and carry your child. Pascal Okechukwu, come and do the DNA. I cannot take care of this child alone. You are lying to yourself. It cannot happen. Over my dead body. You must take care of this child,” she concluded.
Cubana Chief Priest, born Pascal Okechukwu, is a well-known Nigerian businessman and socialite. He gained fame as the former General Manager of the Cubana Group, a hospitality brand with popular clubs and lounges across Nigeria.
He has built a large following on social media, with over four million Instagram followers, where he showcases a lavish lifestyle and strong ties to top celebrities and politicians. Known for his energetic personality and philanthropic acts, Cubana Chief Priest has managed to stay in the spotlight for both business and personal affairs.
However, in recent years, he has also faced controversies, including accusations of assault and now, this ongoing paternity dispute.
Helen’s video quickly went viral, generating a wave of reactions on social media. While some Nigerians have criticized her for using traditional religion as a form of pressure, others have expressed sympathy, especially over the issue of alleged neglect and child abandonment.
A Twitter user wrote,
“DNA tests are cheap and fast these days. If he has nothing to hide, why not just do it and end the drama?”
Another user commented,
“Why is she threatening shrine action? This is 2025. There are courts for this. Go to court, not shrine.”
Some commenters believe the issue is a personal matter that should be settled quietly, while others feel the case reflects deeper challenges many African women face when dealing with uncooperative partners.
In many parts of Nigeria, especially among the Igbo people, traditional shrines and deities still play a powerful cultural role. People who are wronged often resort to laying curses or seeking spiritual justice when modern legal systems fail or are seen as too slow or corrupt.
The Nsukka deity mentioned by Helen is known in some circles for handling cases involving betrayal, broken promises, or injustice. While not officially recognized by Nigeria’s legal system, fear of spiritual consequences still holds weight in the minds of many.
However, the social media attention the case is now receiving may put pressure on Cubana Chief Priest to respond publicly.
This is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity has faced such allegations. In recent years, several high-profile men have been accused of fathering children outside wedlock, often ending in court-mandated DNA tests or public denials.
In many cases, these controversies have either led to legal consequences or public reconciliations, depending on how both parties handled the matter.
It remains to be seen whether Helen Ati will follow through with her threat to travel to Nigeria and involve a deity in Nsukka.
