Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrived in Asaba, Delta State, on Monday to officially welcome Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other prominent leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shettima’s visit marks a significant political shift in the state, as Governor Oborevwori, alongside key SDP leaders, joined the ruling party. The Vice-President was warmly received at the Asaba International Airport by governors from various APC-controlled states, including Nasarawa, Imo, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kogi, Gombe, Lagos, Benue, and Yobe.

Also present were top APC figures, including the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, among others.

Governor Oborevwori’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was officially announced on Wednesday, April 23. At a press conference in Asaba, Senator James Manager revealed that the Governor’s decision to join the APC was made with the goal of fostering the overall development of Delta State. Oborevwori is expected to make a formal declaration of his defection in the coming days.

This move is seen as a boost for the APC in the South-South region as it strengthens the party’s influence in Delta State.
