A deadly dispute over cattle grazing turned violent in Angwan Doka II, Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, on April 27, 2025, leaving two young men dead.

The incident began around 1:00 p.m. when a herder’s cattle reportedly grazed on flowers owned by 21-year-old Arigu David. An argument broke out between David and the herder, which quickly escalated. In a violent turn, the herder attacked David with a machete, killing him on the spot.

David’s friend, 34-year-old Michael Snu, who attempted to intervene, was also attacked by the herder. Snu sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Mararaba Medical Centre, where he was later confirmed dead by doctors.

Local authorities have confirmed that the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the hospital morgue. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and security forces are working to arrest the fleeing herder, who has gone into hiding.

This tragic event highlights ongoing tensions between herders and local communities over grazing rights and property damage, which have been a recurring issue in many parts of the country.
