A 14-year-old boy, Abdullahi Usman, has died after allegedly being given a harmful local mixture by a man in Ashaka, Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State. His friend, also 14, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to police sources, the boys were reportedly lured on May 1 by one Babayo Adamu from the Feshingo area of Ashaka and given the substance. While Abdullahi died shortly after taking it, his friend, Hassan Adamu, was rushed to Bajoga General Hospital in critical condition.
The father of the deceased, Usman Dala, reported the incident to the police, who responded quickly. They documented the scene and began a manhunt for the suspect, who is currently on the run.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and they are urging the public to remain vigilant about harmful substances being given to children.
The incident has raised concern among community leaders and authorities, who are calling for increased awareness to protect minors from similar dangers.
